I recently had the opportunity to pop down to the Cardiff branch of Debenhams to find out all about Dior’s latest releases in the form of a champagne and sweet treats events including a make-up masterclass courtesy of the lovely Anthony who works on the counter. I’m all up for anything to do with cosmetics and it’s always a fab chance to meet up with my fellow local bloggers so I practically ran from work (which is luckily only a five minute walk away) as I finished my shift just as the event started one Friday evening.
Huddled together in a warm department store around the Dior counter, we were led upstairs to a private room laid out exclusively for us for just over an hour to be personally introduced to some new and some classic Dior make-up products. My glass filled with some bubbly and a mini iced bun on my lips I watched as Anthony talked about the great history of Dior and discussed in detail some of it’s best known products such as the Diorskin Forever Foundation and the Dior Maximize 3D Lash Primer. Let me tell you, Anthony really knows his stuff and his passion for Dior shone through during the entire evening, we were in good hands.
Personally I’ve never had a nose for cosmetics I would call as high-end as Dior and the only products I’d come across before were their fragrances, mainly because Rick is obsessed with the Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette and is convinced Santa will be delivering him some down the chimney this Christmas (heh heh, we’ll see). I was amazed to be in such a relaxed setting to get hands-on with so many key products because everything Anthony was using in his masterclass was in full size form for me to use and swatch to my heart’s content.
Soon the back of my hand was sticky with lipsticks, primers and eyeliners and I couldn’t have been happier. I fell in love with the Dior Rouge Matte Lipstick and soon added my wanted shades to the secret Pinterest board I send to family this time of year so they know just what to get me for the big day. I liked how I could pick everything I wanted up and follow along with the masterclass at the same time because we were surrounded by so many snippets of advice and knowledge to easily follow along with.
I don’t really use mascara primer in my beauty routine because it always reminds of those cheap drugstore double-ended white and black mascaras that were in fashion years ago and you could buy on the local market for peanuts. Anthony picked up the Diorshow Maximize 3D Lash Primer and started to use it on his model’s eyebrows to tame them. For those of us rocking the Cara Delavingne brow look then this is a must but then for those, like me, who plucked their eyebrows to such thin lines when they were teenagers I don’t think your brows are going to be thick enough to take advantage of this genius tip but it was still worth seeing the primer in action.
Once Anthony’s model was ready for her catwalk with a look to match we all got our eyes on the Dior Splendor Holiday 2016 Collection that her look was inspired by. The products in this range feel ‘extra’ luxury and the shades are stunningly bold – just right for the festive party season. It was really fun going ‘backstage’ in Debenhams, working in retail myself I feel extra nosy when it comes to seeing how stores are laid out behind the scenes but being treated to exclusive tips and advice courtesy of Dior was the icing on the cake. I had a great evening even if my feet were aching from a bad choice in footwear and I managed to leave my scarf behind (I got it back in the end) but I’ll certainly be popping back to the counter soon to see the products I’ve become familiar with (and maybe fulfil someone’s Christmas wish).
